The year opens on a Saturday and adds nothing

New Year’s Day 2028 is a Saturday, 1 January. Under the Public Holidays Act 36 of 1994 that is where it ends. There is no Saturday rule in the Act, so no Monday is added and nothing is shifted. Day of Reconciliation repeats the pattern in December, on Saturday the 16th.

One day in the whole year does add a Monday. Heritage Day is a Sunday, 24 September, and the Act makes the Monday following a public holiday too, so 25 September is marked alongside it. It is the only addition on the 2028 sheet.

April is the crowded month, with three of the twelve: Good Friday on the 14th, Family Day on the 17th and Freedom Day on the 27th. The first two are the days on the list without fixed dates, set from the Easter date, which in 2028 is 16 April. February, July, October and November carry none.

A public holiday can be moved or added by proclamation. What the sheet draws is the pattern the Act sets, not any such announcement, and it is the national list rather than a statement of what an employer closes for.

Printing it

A4 is 210 × 297 mm; Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. The PDF carries a real page box for either, so print at 100% rather than fit to page. A5 and A3 sit on the same control, portrait or landscape, ruled lines on or off.

The marks are black rather than coloured, which is what most people print in. A twelve-month sheet marks the days but does not name them; move to a single month and the names print under the grid.
