How January falls
January runs to 31 days in every year this sheet offers, and it takes the first slot in the year and in the first quarter. What moves from year to year is where those 31 days land in the week, which is the one thing a month sheet has to get right.
In 2026 January begins on a Thursday and ends on a Saturday, five rows hold it whether the week starts on Sunday or on Monday, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday each come round five times. Set the sheet to 2028 and the same 31 days need six rows on both week starts; the month opens on a Saturday that year.
January is also the month whose opening days can be numbered to the year before. In 2026 it starts in week 1. The 2027 sheet numbers its first days 53 and the 2028 sheet numbers them 52, both carried over from the year before, because a week that spans the turn of the year keeps a single number. Turning on week numbers prints them down the left edge of the grid.
Printing it
The PDF carries a real page box, so an A4 sheet comes out at 210 × 297 mm and a Letter sheet at 8.5 × 11 inches. Print at 100% rather than fit to page: fit to page shrinks the sheet by a few millimetres, and the writing squares shrink with it.
A5 at 148 × 210 mm and A3 at 297 × 420 mm sit on the same paper row, and the sheet can be turned to landscape before you pull the file. The caption under the drawing names the paper, the turn and the size in millimetres, so you can check it before anything reaches the printer.
