A weekend-heavy month
Ten of May’s days fall at the weekend, as many as any month in 2026 carries — August is the only other one to reach ten. The month opens on a Friday and closes on a Sunday, bracketed by weekend days at both ends, and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays each come round five times.
That arrangement costs a row, but only on one of the two grids. On a Sunday-start grid May 2026 needs six rows; on a Monday-start grid five is enough. If the sheet is going on a wall and the boxes need depth, the Monday-start version is the one to print.
Twenty-one working days puts the month at the light end of the year, above February’s twenty and below the twenty-three that July and December carry. Its first day sits in ISO week 18 and its last in ISO week 22.
Printing it
Six rows are shallower than five on the same paper. Landscape helps here more than it does in most months, because the extra row takes its depth from a page that is not getting any taller.
Whichever version you take, print at 100% rather than fit-to-page. The PDF carries a real page box — A4 at 210 × 297 mm, Letter at 8.5 × 11 inches — and fit-to-page quietly overrides it.
