Three moves, and not all the same way
Three of the eleven federal holidays meet a weekend in 2027, and 5 U.S.C. 6103 sends two of them backwards and one forwards. Juneteenth National Independence Day is a Saturday, 19 June, observed Friday 18 June. Christmas Day is a Saturday, 25 December, observed Friday 24 December. Independence Day is a Sunday, 4 July, observed Monday 5 July.
The sheet marks both dates in each pair, which is the only way a printed sheet can be honest about the difference. The 25th of December is the holiday; the 24th is the day off. Neither mark counts for more than the other and both are on the paper.
The remaining eight fall on weekdays. New Year’s Day opens the year on a Friday. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day are the Monday holidays, on 18 January, 15 February, 31 May, 6 September and 11 October. November carries two Thursdays: Veterans Day on the 11th and Thanksgiving Day on the 25th.
A federal day can be added or moved by proclamation. The sheet carries the pattern the statute sets and not any such announcement, and it is the national list rather than a description of what any workplace closes for.
Printing it
A4 is 210 × 297 mm and Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches, and the PDF carries a real page box for whichever you pick, so print at 100% rather than fit to page. A5 and A3 are there too, portrait or landscape, with the week starting Sunday or Monday.
The marks are black, not coloured, so a mono print loses nothing. Twelve months to a sheet leaves no room for names, so the days are marked and not labelled; a single month prints the list under the grid, with (observed) against a day that carries an observance rather than the holiday itself.
