Six rows, whichever way
August needs six rows however you start the week, and it is the only month in 2026 that does. March and November want six on a Monday start and five on a Sunday start; May wants the reverse; August wants six both ways. Thirty-one days opening on a Saturday and closing on a Monday will not sit in five rows of seven.
The consequence is depth. On one sheet of paper a six-row grid gives shallower boxes than a five-row one, and there is no start day that recovers the difference. If the month has to be written in by hand, this is where a larger sheet or the landscape version earns its keep.
Ten of its days fall at the weekend, which only May matches, and Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays each come round five times. The month spans ISO weeks 31 to 36 — on a Monday-start grid that is one week number to each of the six rows.
Printing it
Print at 100% rather than fit-to-page, and be deliberate about paper. The PDF carries a real page box, so A4 measures 210 × 297 mm and Letter 8.5 × 11 inches on the printed sheet; A4 is the taller of the two, which the sixth row makes more noticeable than usual.
