Why May often wants a sixth row
May has 31 days and sits in the middle of the second quarter. Of the three years on this bench, it needs a sixth row on a Sunday-start grid in two of them. The 2026 sheet lists May and August as its six-row months, the 2027 sheet lists January, May and October, and the 2028 sheet lists January, April, July and December. May and January are the only months to appear on more than one of the three.
In 2026 the month begins on a Friday and ends on a Sunday, and that spread wants six rows on a Sunday start against five on a Monday start. Ten of its days fall at the weekend, the most of any month on the 2026 sheet and level with August, and 21 are working days.
Six rows on one page is not a fault, but it does change the drawing. The header, the margins and the paper stay where they are, so the extra row is found by making all six shallower than five would have been.
Printing it
If the sheet is for writing in, a six-row May is the case for more paper or a different turn. A3 measures 297 × 420 mm against A4’s 210 × 297 mm, and landscape trades row depth for column width. Letter, at 8.5 × 11 inches, is slightly shorter than A4 and gives a six-row grid a little less to work with.
Print at 100% rather than fit to page. The PDF carries a real page box, so the sheet arrives at the size named in the caption under the drawing rather than at whatever the print dialogue thought was safe.
