How April falls

April is the first of the year’s four 30-day months and it opens the second quarter. Thirty days is the length that most often settles into five rows, which is why April sheets tend to look alike from one year to the next. Not always, though.

In 2026 April begins on a Wednesday and ends on a Thursday, five rows hold it on either week start, and Wednesday and Thursday each come round five times while every other weekday comes round four. Move the sheet to 2028 and April wants a sixth row on a Sunday start, though a Monday start still holds it in five.

That is worth knowing before you print a run of months. A six-row grid divides the same paper into more and shallower boxes, so the year you pick changes how much room there is to write in, not only which numbers appear.

Printing it

Four paper sizes sit on the bench: A4 at 210 × 297 mm, A5 at 148 × 210 mm, A3 at 297 × 420 mm, and Letter at 8.5 × 11 inches. A5 is half an A4 and suits a sheet that is going in a pocket rather than on a wall; A3 is twice an A4 and gives a five-row April boxes deep enough to write several lines in.

Whichever you choose, print at 100% rather than fit to page, and let the paper setting in the print dialogue match the one on the bench. The sheet can also be turned to landscape, which widens the columns and shortens the rows.
