October and its twin
October has 31 days and opens the last quarter of the year. In 2026 it falls exactly as January does: both months begin on a Thursday and end on a Saturday, both sit in five rows on either week start, both count 22 working days and nine weekend days, and in both, Thursday, Friday and Saturday come round five times each.
The pairing holds in 2027, where January and October both open on a Friday. It breaks in 2028, when January opens on a Saturday and October on a Sunday. That year runs to 366 days, and the extra one falls in February, between the two.
So the month is steady in shape and unsteady in position. Its length never changes, its slot in the year never changes, and the weekdays under the numbers change every time. That is the whole case for setting the year on the sheet rather than trusting a grid printed somewhere else.
Printing it
Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches and A4 is 210 × 297 mm: Letter is the wider of the two and A4 the taller. A sheet laid out for one and printed on the other will not be wrong, but it will not be the size the caption promised either, so set the paper on the bench and match it in the print dialogue.
Print at 100%. The page box in the PDF is real, which is the only reason a sheet can be trusted to come out at an exact size at all.
