The short month of the third quarter
September is the only 30-day month in the third quarter of 2027, and on paper that is most of its character. It runs Wednesday to Thursday, holds in five rows on either week start, and divides into 22 working days and 8 weekend days.
Wednesday and Thursday each fall five times; no other weekday does. The surplus therefore sits in the middle of the week, where it is least likely to disturb anything arranged around the weekend — the quietest place in a month for an extra day to land.
September closes the third quarter. If the sheets are going up three at a time, this is the one that ends the set, and the five-row grid means it will match the two before it rather than standing a row taller.
Printing it
A4 is 210 × 297 mm, Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches, and the PDF is written with a page box at whichever was chosen. Print at 100%: fit to page rescales the drawing to suit the printer’s own margins, and the sheet stops measuring what it says.
The XLSX opens in Excel with the dates in cells rather than as a picture, which suits a month that is going to be filled in on a screen and printed afterwards. Column widths and row heights can be altered there without the grid distorting, because the borders belong to the cells and not to a drawing laid over them.
